... GIZA "Future Ruins"

Out from Seattle (WA) Giza was formed in March of 2012 by Steve Becker (bass), Trent McIntyre (drums) and Richard Burkett (guitar) with the goal of writing "loud and massive instrumental music". In May, the guys  recorded "Future Ruins", 6 songs with Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis) which has been released this week.
Considering the type of sound that Giza wants to achieve, this is not surprising at all that they worked with this wellknow guru, cause indeed we've got here a band that will fulfill fans of Pelican, Isis, Mastodon, Baroness and the likes !!!

From the beginning till the end, Giza strikes with quality and force. Loud and massive it is indeed, but not only... especially in the longest songs which are more melody-driven with a floaty psychedelic edge.
Shortest songs like "Wake and Drag" or "Roaming Hordes" are heavier, with rumbling bass lines and a more haunting pace. Another great song is "Hour of the Bullfight", certainly the most representative of the band's abilities in terms of moods variation, with the "Great Leader" (their doomiest), I would have placed one of those as the opening song instead of the "Séance", too long and maybe too progressive for catching immediately all the density of their sound.
This is nothing serious that could make me think that those guys formed less than a year ago and have recorded this precipitately, no, this precocious release is simply the sign that Giza is a serious hope to follow attentively in 2013 !
